以飞车特技知名的\"小黑\"柯受良其实也是一个不错的娱乐片导演，本片正是其代表作。周星驰与张学友扮演尖沙咀区的两名便衣刑警，平常互相插科打诨，但为求破案则不择手段，中间他们认识了一名来拍节目的电视台女记者，两人为了追求这位美女而面临友情的考验。全片拍得相当轻松有趣，将新新人类玩世不恭的处世态度生动活地带入警匪动作片之中，配合了男主角的讨喜演出和导编讽刺现实的喜趣，构成了这部特色鲜明的商业片。
